Yoga for children with autism
We are seeking funding to provide yoga classes for autistic children in a local school in Pembrokeshire, with the aim of bringing relief from the stress and anxiety that they often experience.
Recent research inthe United States has found that yoga classes have a positive impact on focus, concentration, communication and motor control. We are also interested in looking for new ways to reduce anxiety as this is a current issue as raised by the National Autism Society (Spring 2011).
We are not aware of any other secondary autism provision offering regular yoga classes to pupils
and as such, this project could break new ground, whilst also offering a unique opportunity to observe and research how yoga classes affect pupils with Autism. We intend to report the outcomes of this project as widely as possible.
